If you're planning a
holiday from the UAE, one of the first things you'll need to consider is
whether you require a visa. While many online articles promise lists of ‘visa-free
countries for UAE residents’, the reality is often more complicated. Your UAE
residence visa can make travelling easier in some destinations, but in most
cases it's still your passport nationality that determines the entry
requirements.
That's why the same
destination can have different rules for two people living and working in
Dubai. Some countries have introduced visa waivers or simplified entry
specifically for UAE residents, while others only extend visa-free access to
holders of an Emirati passport.
To make planning easier,
we've grouped destinations by the type of entry benefit they offer to UAE
residents, while highlighting the important exceptions that are often
overlooked.
Visa-free
destinations for UAE residents

Armenia
Armenia offers one of the most generous visa
concessions available to UAE residents. The temporary visa waiver for UAE-based
residents of more than 100 nationalities has been extended until 1 July 2027,
allowing stays of up to 180 days, provided your UAE residence permit remains
valid for at least six months and your passport is valid for at least four
months from the date of departure.
It’s one of the easiest countries to visit from the UAE, making it
simple to explore Yerevan’s café culture, Dilijan’s mountain scenery and
historic monasteries such as Tatev without the need for an advance visa
application.
Georgia
Georgia is another popular short-haul destination,
although the rules are slightly more nuanced.
Most UAE residents only need their UAE
residence visa/Emirates ID to be valid for 3 months from the date of departure,
with a passport generally valid for at least 90 days. UAE residents can enter
Georgia visa-free for 90 days within any 180-day period.
However, citizens of the following 17
countries must have at least 1 year remaining on their UAE residence
visa/Emirates ID at the time of entry:
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Democratic
Republic of Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Ghana, Morocco, Nigeria,
Pakistan, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda, and Yemen.
One recent update applies
to everyone. Since 1 January 2026, all international visitors must carry travel
or health insurance covering at least GEL 30,000 (approximately AED 41,000) for
the duration of their stay, and travellers may be asked to provide proof of
cover on arrival.
Visa on
arrival for UAE residents

Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan has become one of the UAE’s
favourite destinations for a long weekend, thanks in part to its simplified
entry arrangements.
UAE residents (except Syrian, Iraqi and
Afghan nationals) can obtain a visa on arrival at Baku International Airport,
provided their UAE residence visa is valid for at least 6 months and their
passport is valid for at least 4 months. If the UAE residence visa has less
than 6 months’ validity, an e-Visa may be available if the traveller’s
nationality is eligible.
Beyond Baku's
UNESCO-listed Old City, Azerbaijan offers mountain escapes, traditional
villages and the cooler climate of Gabala. If you're planning a trip, read our guide to why Azerbaijan is becoming one of the
UAE's favourite destinations.
Maldives
The Maldives offers a
30-day visa on arrival to visitors of almost every nationality, making it one
of the simplest destinations to visit from the UAE. As long as you meet the
standard entry requirements, including proof of accommodation and onward travel,
there's no need to arrange a visa before you fly.
Combined with its short
flight time, it's an ideal choice for everything from a long weekend to a
luxury beach holiday.
Seychelles
Seychelles follows a
similar approach by issuing a visitor's permit on arrival to travellers of
almost every nationality. Visitors simply need a valid passport, confirmed
accommodation, a return or onward ticket and evidence of sufficient funds for
their stay.
With no embassy
appointments or lengthy application process, it's a refreshingly
straightforward way to swap city life for the white sands and granite boulders
of Anse Source d'Argent or the relaxed pace of Mahé.
Easy eVisa
destinations for UAE residents

Morocco
Morocco has become significantly more accessible for
many UAE residents thanks to its electronic visa system.
While UAE passport
holders continue to enjoy visa-free entry for up to 90 days, many UAE residents
of other nationalities are eligible to apply for Morocco's eVisa, provided
their UAE residence permit has at least 180 days' validity remaining.
The simplified
application process has made it much easier to experience Morocco's vibrant
cities, from the bustling souks of Marrakech to the blue-washed streets of
Chefchaouen, without the lengthy embassy procedures that were once required.
Before you
book: where your passport still matters

One of the biggest
misconceptions surrounding visa-free travel is assuming that living in the UAE
automatically grants the same travel privileges as holding a UAE passport. A
handful of destinations illustrate why it's always worth checking the detail.
Montenegro
For UAE residents,
Montenegro has traditionally meant a visa or an alternative valid visa such as
Schengen, UK or US, there's no automatic exemption tied to your residence
status alone. That's changed slightly for long-term residents: if you've held a
valid UAE residence permit for at least three consecutive years, you can now
enter visa-free for up to 10 days between 1 May and 1 October 2026, provided
you fly direct from the UAE and have a booked tour package confirmed in
advance. Outside those conditions, you'll generally still need a visa or a
qualifying Schengen, UK or US visa.
UAE nationals, meanwhile,
continue to enter visa-free for up to 90 days under the standing agreement
between the two countries.
Serbia
Serbia works the same way
for most UAE residents: your own passport nationality decides whether you need
a visa, and there's no residency-based shortcut. If your passport isn't on
Serbia's visa-free list, you'll usually need to apply for a visa in advance, or
enter on the strength of a valid Schengen, UK or US visa or residence permit.
Emirati passport holders
have visa-free access for up to 90 days under a separate agreement.

holiday with confidence
