Top destinations to visit on one of our Germany package holidays
Looking for some inspiration on places to visit while you’re holidaying in Germany? Here’s our pick of the best areas - and why not extend your trip with a hop over the border on one of our package holidays to Poland, too?
1. Munich
Nestled in the heart of Bavaria, Munich should be right at the top of your list when travelling on one of our Germany package holidays. Sample bratwurst and sauerkraut at the traditional halls, to fuel your days of exploring. From the vibrant Marienplatz Square, adorned with Gothic buildings, to a stroll around the Englischer Garten, which is larger than New York’s Central Park, and a trip to the BMW Museum, there’s so much to do here. If you’ve got the time, spend a day at Neuschwanstein Castle - it’s less than two hours away by car, and is said to have been the inspiration behind Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle.
2. Berlin
Edgy, educational and vibrant, a few days in Berlin will allow you to scratch the surface of this achingly cool capital. Brandenburg Gate, the East Side Gallery, and the Reichstag are some of the main tourist attractions; but if you visit on a summer’s day, then why not visit some of the beautiful parks the city has to offer, too? Tiergarten is the largest, and has a pretty riverside cafe, or you can rent out a pedalo at Treptower. Alternatively, if you want to learn something new on one of our Germany travel packages, then head to Museum Island, which is comprised of five different museums and galleries.
3. Cologne
Think of Cologne and you’ll likely conjure up images of its dramatic Gothic cathedral - a must-see on any trip here, and a great backdrop if you’re heading here for the Christmas markets. You also shouldn’t miss a trip to the Chocolate Museum, where you can create your own customised bar, as well as a visit to House of Fragrances, which offers guided tours, and the ability to create your own scent if you book onto one of the seminars.
4. Stuttgart
With a history steeped in the car manufacturing industry, head to Stuttgart and visit both the Mercedes Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum. Wilhelma Zoological and Botanic Garden is another great place if you’ve booked one of our Germany package holidays in the spring or summer, which just so happens to also be the perfect place for a picnic; and while away the afternoon at the public library, which is not only a haven for bookworms, but makes for the perfect Instagram shot, too.
5. Dusseldorf
Situated in Western Germany, get your bearings with a view of the city at the top of the Rhine Tower, or hop on a boat tour down the river. If you’re an art lover, then plan some time to visit Museum Kunstpalast, which is home to five permanent exhibitions consisting of 3,000 pieces; as well as KIT, an underground art gallery that features rotating exhibitions from up-and-coming artists.
6. Tegernsee
Another Bavarian spot that’s worth a visit on one of our Germany travel packages, this charming resort town offers adventure in abundance. Hike, sail, and swim in the lake over the summer months, before catching the cable car to the summit of the Wallberg, where you can enjoy panoramic views. Alternatively, if you visit Tegernsee in the winter, then you can go skiing, tobogganing and sledding, as you marvel at the backdrop of the Alps.
