You’ve booked the venue, sent out invites, and have picked your menu ready for the big day. The next thing you need to do now is book your honeymoon!

With so many amazing places to visit in the world, it can feel overwhelming when choosing where to go. But not to worry, as we’ve chosen our pick of the best destinations for newlyweds, where you’ll get to enjoy the perfect mix of adventure, relaxation, and exploration. So, read on to discover our top honeymoon ideas below.

Maldives

If you’re wondering where some of the top destinations for honeymoons are in the world, then the Maldives is unsurprisingly at the top of the list. Its white sand shores, azure seas, and year-round sunny climes make it the perfect place for newlyweds looking to relax, unwind, and switch off from the rest of the world.

Once you’ve flown into Malé, take a boat and discover a selection of islands (of which there are over 1,000 of them), divided across the North and South atolls.

Discover our luxury resorts with one of our Maldives holiday packages, where you can sunbathe, snorkel, and swim to your heart’s content. Our adults’ only resorts are perfect for a Maldives honeymoon package, where you can spend quality time with your partner, as you enjoy a relaxing spa treatment, or hit the water and try out kiteboarding or diving.

Other things you can do in the Maldives to make your honeymoon truly special include sleeping beneath the stars, enjoying a private dining experience, with an underwater restaurant and secluded island both options; and adopting a coral. The latter is at Niyama, where you can snorkel to your coral together, choose a name for it, and then receive a certificate, which makes a great memento for your perfect honeymoon.

Seychelles

Situated in the middle of the Indian Ocean, the Seychelles is another of our best places to go for a honeymoon, offering an equally relaxed and secluded holiday to the Maldives. With more than 100 islands to choose from, you could spend each day relaxing on a picture-perfect palm-lined beach, where you can enjoy quality time together with no interruptions.

However, if you’re newlyweds who enjoy adventuring, then spend a day hiking through Morne National Park, which is found on Mahé, the main island. You’ll see so many species of birds and plants that are native to the island, as you hike through jungle-like greenery. The steep hike to the top of Morne Blanc is more than worth it, as you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views over the ocean.

If you prefer to spend your time in the water, head to the outer atolls, where you can discover schools of colourful fish, and even swim with manta rays. For diving, two of the best spots is L’ilot, and Brissare Rocks, which are home to manta rays and sharks.

To top off the ultimate honeymoon, visit the giant tortoises at the Aldabra atoll, and dine on delicious creole dishes, with ladob perhaps the most famous. You can either have it served savoury (salted fish), or sweet (nutmeg, vanilla, coconut milk, and sugar).

Thailand

A Thailand honeymoon package is one of the best in the world, and can be started in the bright lights of Bangkok. A couple of days will enable you to see all the sights the capital has to offer, including the Chatuchak Weekend Market, the golden gilt of the shrine to Wat Pho, and the opulent Grand Palace. Just don’t forget to end your time here with a romantic sunset cruise down the Chao Phraya River!

One of the best places to travel for your honeymoon, the islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan offer a selection of luxury accommodation that’s perfect for newlyweds. Here, you can swim and snorkel to your heart’s content at the pristine beaches, or book into one of the secluded wellness retreats, where you can truly unwind. Phuket is another option if you’re looking for serene beaches, and is also home to the Green Elephant Sanctuary Park, where you can approach these gentle giants as they’re bathing and feeding, whilst knowing they’re being well looked after.

Finally, spend a few days in Chiang Mai, where you can visit traditional temples both inside and outside of the city gates, including Wat Chedi Luang, which is one of the tallest, and has several elephant statues; and Wat Lok Molee, which is particularly popular during the lantern festival. Luckily, all of these places can be visited on one of our Thailand holiday packages!

Italy

A romantic Italian road trip makes for one of the best honeymoon trips, as you uncover the glamour and opulence of the main Italian cities, azure lakes, and dramatic coastline. Begin your Italian holiday with a Rome honeymoon, where you can see key sights like the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps, before booking on to an intimate gelato-making class, where you’ll find out how to nail the perfect recipe.

Whether you want to continue your honeymoon hopping around the chic cities of Milan, Venice, and Florence; or you’d prefer to go out of town is up to you. The Amalfi Coast is known for its glitz and glamour, making it one of our top honeymoon ideas. Souvenir shop on the steep lanes of pretty Positano, delve into some of the best seafood at the authentic fishing village of Cetara, and tour an organic citrus farm, with lemons native to the area.

Alternatively, for an even more laid-back honeymoon in Italy, spend some time by the pristine lakes. Lake Como and Lake Garda are two of our favourites – with the first one set to a beautiful backdrop of snow-topped Alps. Hop from town to town on the ferry, ensuring you make Bellagio one of your stop-offs – a favourite amongst A-Listers, you can easily while away the day visiting the many shops, galleries, and restaurants here.

Mauritius

Another one of our awesome honeymoon destinations is Mauritius, which is located 1,750km south of the Seychelles, also in the Indian Ocean. Spend your time here visiting all four corners of the island, with the north, east, south, and west all offering something uniquely different.

The north of the island is known for its variety of watersports, street food, and cultural sites. Pamplemousses Botanical Garden and the church of St Francis of Assisi are just two sites that can be found here, with the church the oldest on the island, dating all the way back to 1756.

If you want to spend some time relaxing on beautiful beaches, then this corner of the island has got you covered – try out Trou aux Biches and Mont Choisy, the latter of which has a traditional fishing village vibe.

Mauritius’ east coast is home to dramatic cliffs, rugged coastlines, and hidden coves, with the port town of Mahebourg worth a visit. It’s worth noting that this part of the island is impacted more by the trade winds, so it’s better visiting here between October – May.

Southern Mauritius is home to Black Rivers National Park, which sprawls over 50km, and is home to Alexandra Falls, which is positioned 700 metres above sea level. Finally, in western Mauritius you can discover the capital, Port Louis, where you can sample fresh produce at Central Market, and visit the colourful Kaylasson Temple. Whichever corner you decide to stay in, you can guarantee you’ve picked one of the best honeymoon venues!

Switzerland

Picture-perfect Switzerland is easily one of the best honeymoon venues, and for several reasons. Snow bunny newlyweds will love the slopes, with Zermatt one of the top resorts, with the Matterhorn possibly one of the most famous mountains in the world. Verbier and St Moritz are also great options for honeymooners, with slopes for all abilities, not to mention a great apres-ski scene!

One of the best places to travel to for your honeymoon in Switzerland is the romantic city of Geneva, with its winding streets home to cosy cafes and restaurants. Set on Lake Geneva, take a ferry and visit nearby Lausanne, where you can discover the dramatic gothic cathedral and the Olympic Museum; and Yvoire, which is just over the border in France, with its medieval village making you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Zurich should also be top of your list if you’re planning to embark on a Switzerlandtour package, where you can spend your days museum hopping and sightseeing around the Old Town, and your evenings dining at the many romantic restaurants, sampling fondue, raclette, and other traditional Swiss delicacies.

India

Home to bustling cities, majestic monuments, delicious dishes, and vast lakes, India is easily one of the best honeymoon places in the world. Start your trip in the capital, New Delhi, where you can book on to a couple’s cooking class, visit top attractions like the Red Fort, Jama Masjid Mosque, and Chandni Chowk, with its chaotic energy the easiest way to get acquainted with Delhi life! While here, you have to take a day trip to the iconic Taj Mahal, with its marble walls and pristine pool making it arguably one of the most romantic attractions in the world.

Manali is another place to visit when picking a honeymoon package in India. In the heart of the Himalayas, be prepared to have your breath taken away at the sight of the snow-capped mountains, and lush green fields.

One of the biggest tea plantations in all of India, make a stop at Munnar, and book a tour at one of the plantations, where you can meet the tea pickers, take part in some tasting, and learn about the history of the tea-making process.

Finally, schedule in some time on your honeymoon to relax in Goa, which is situated on the western coast of India. Here, you’ll get to relax at some of the best beaches in the country, including Calangute Beach, which is perfect for parasailing; and Baga Beach, which is known for its quirky beach shacks.

Australia

Spanning more than 7.74 million km, Australia offers some of the best honeymoon trips, with a wealth of things to see and do. For a Sydney honeymoon, sunbathe at the chic beaches of Bondi and Manly, before sampling the cute coffee shops and restaurants that line the sands. Discover top attractions including the Harbour Bridge, Opera House, and Royal Botanic Garden, or head out to Blue Mountains to escape the buzz of the city and enjoy some time as husband and wife.

Melbourne and Brisbane are also great cities to visit on honeymoon. Edgy and hipster, Melbourne is famed for its street art and café culture, and is also home to the Moonlit Sanctuary, where you can book on to a night tour and see native Australian wildlife including kookaburras, wallabies, and koalas, in their natural habitat.

Head to Brisbane and take a boat to the four largest sand islands in the world, where you can quad bike, whale watch and camp. From here, you can easily road trip down the Gold Coast, which is home to the stunning seaside resorts of Palm Beach, and Surfer’s Paradise.

To make your honeymoon truly magical, make sure you spend a few days at the blissful Whitsunday Islands, where you can snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, and swim amongst the sea life that live in the area, which include dolphins, whales, and turtles.

Bali

Another amazing destination for your honeymoon is Bali, with its island retreat a haven for loved-up travellers. With its lush rice fields, rugged volcanoes, and serene beaches, it’s easily one of the most romantic places in the world.

Home to luxury spas and yoga resorts, Ubud should be a number one stop as part of your Bali island honeymoon package. Indulge in treatments and relax in the pools, as you enjoy quality time together as a married couple.

Spend some time in the northern part of the island and visit hot springs, waterfalls, and crater lakes;  before relaxing at the undisturbed beaches in the south island. Other romantic things to do on one of our Balitrip packages are enjoying a private sunset boat cruise, where you can indulge in some fine dining; and white water rafting down Ayung River, where you’ll get to experience the vast rainforest and surrounding cliffs up close and personal.

African safari

For a honeymoon with a difference, why not consider an African safari? South Africa’s Kruger and Aquila game reserves are two of the most well-known, but there are so many other destinations you can pick from, too.

Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to a population of mountain gorillas; and you can discover big cats, crocodiles and hippos at Murchison Falle National Park. Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe is one of the biggest in the world and is home to more than 45,000 elephants. Victoria Falls is easily reachable on a day trip from here, where you can enjoy a romantic boat trip across the waters, or, for something truly action-packed, white water raft across the Zambezi, swing from the bridge, or even bungee dump down the waterfall!

To make your honeymoon extra special, opt for a private safari experience so you can make sure you see everything you want to, and choose a luxury lodge, where you’ll get to enjoy all of the amenities a hotel will offer, but in a more intimate setting.
