Hong Kong is one of Asia’s most dazzling destinations, and it’s a great vacation option for travellers from Dubai and the UAE. Combining the hustle and bustle of one of the world’s busiest cities with beautiful cultural experiences and lush mountain peaks, a Hong Kong holiday is bound to be full of energy, culture, and luxury.

Whether you’re flying in for a family holiday, a shopping escape, or planning on including Hong Kong on one of our Asian cruise packages, there’s no shortage of things to do in Hong Kong. This year is especially exciting, with family-friendly milestone events like Hong Kong Disneyland’s 20th anniversary and the Twin Panda Birthday Celebration adding even more reasons to visit.

Attractions and cultural sights

No trip to Hong Kong is complete without taking in its most iconic sights. Start at Victoria Peak, where the historic Peak Tram whisks you up to breathtaking views of the skyline and Victoria Harbour. Catch the tram backdown to the water, and hop aboard the Star Ferry – a beautiful recreation of Hong Kong’s 1920s ferries, and a classic way to cross the harbour and see the city lights sparkle after dark.

Another favourite on our list of places to visit in Hong Kong is Lantau Island. Here, the towering Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery offer a spiritual retreat away from the bustle of the city. The Buddha itself stands 34 metres high and is reached by climbing 268 steps – the climb is well worth the reward of stunning panoramic views of the mountains and ocean. Next door, you can explore the monastery’s intricate architecture and enjoy the peace and quiet in the gardens.

Many of our clients pair the visit with a ride on the Ngong Ping 360 cable car - a 25-minute journey that carries you over forests, water, and villages, offering one of the most scenic aerial views in Hong Kong.

Shopping in the city

Hong Kong is famous as one of the world’s great shopping destinations, with something to suit every style. If you’re looking for luxury, then head to Central and Causeway Bay, where you’ll find designer boutiques and flagship stores from the world’s biggest brands, offering the latest in high-end fashion. If you want to really make the most of shopping in Hong Kong, then get in touch with us - DW Travel can help arrange personal shopping and fashion consultations.

If you’re after a more authentic local shopping experience, then the famous Ladies’ Market is a must: this famous kilometre-long market is packed with souvenirs and bargain finds. The Temple Street night market is another must-see shopping spot, with street food and entertainment as well as shopping.

If you prefer your shopping experience indoors, Harbour City is the largest mall in Hong Kong – and it’s absolutely huge, covering 2 million square feet, with hundreds of international brands, 70 restaurants, and harbour views from the observation deck.

Enjoy Hong Kong’s food scene

Food is at the heart of Hong Kong’s identity, and it’s one of the reasons travellers return again and again. Hong Kong’s food scene is maybe most famous for its hawker centres, where you can find dozens of stalls offering the tastiest street food imaginable. Try everything under one roof – from sizzling skewers or traditional curry fish ballsto the city’s famous egg waffles.

For a more refined experience, Hong Kong isalso home to dozens of Michelin-starred restaurants, offering everything from traditional Cantonese banquets to world-class French and Japanese cuisine.

Muslim travellers will also find a growing number of Halal-certified restaurants, particularly around Kowloon Mosque, with Halal options spanning Chinese, Indian, and Middle Eastern flavours. Whether you’re grabbing dumplings from a street stall or dining with a harbour view, dining in Hong Kong is part of the adventure.

Family-friendly fun

A city break might not always be top of the list for a family holiday, but Hong Kong has plenty of attractions to delight children of all ages. At the top of the list is Hong Kong Disneyland, celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2025 with ‘The Most Magical Party of All’ –a year-long celebration featuring special parades, shows, and limited-edition food and shopping experiences.

Across the city, Ocean Park is a fun waterpark that combines aquariums, thrill rides, and animal encounters – it’s a brilliant day out. It’s also home to the city’s much-loved giant panda twins Jia Jia and De De, making the Twin Panda Birthday Celebration this year an especially joyful highlight!

For curious young minds, the Hong Kong Science Museum offers interactive exhibits that make learning fun. And, of course, Hong Kong has plenty of inner-city parks and green spaces to give your family room to unwind between adventures.

Exciting events

Alongside its year-round attractions, there’s also a buzzing calendar of events and things to do in Hong Kong for culture, sports, and art enthusiasts. Rugby enthusiasts flock to the Hong Kong Sevens, one of the world’s most famous tournaments. For art aficionados, Arts Month in March is a must – there’s the HK walls street art festival, Art Basel contemporary art fair, and Art Central exhibition, so there’s something for every art fan.

For those visiting in September, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance is an unmissable spectacle: a 67-metre-long dragon lit within cense parades through the streets in a vibrant UNESCO-listed tradition. Keeping with the theme, in May there’s also the Dragon Boat Festival, where you can watch teams in colourful costumes compete in dragon boat races across the city!

With so many festivals, sports, and celebrations, every season in Hong Kong brings something new to experience. If you’re planning your holiday around a particular event, or just want suggestions on the best time to visit, your DW Travel expert will be on hand to help.
